TRIAD BROADCASTING AND JMP MEDIA CLOSE PEORIA PURCHASE
TRIAD ADDS SUCCESSFUL FOUR STATION CLUSTER TO GROWING
SMALL AND MID MARKET RADIO OPERATION
MONTEREY, CA, and PEORIA,
IL, March 11, 2003 - Triad Broadcasting Company, LLC, of
Monterey, CA, today added four highly successful
stations in Peoria, Illinois to its growing portfolio of
small and mid-sized market radio stations. Triad
President and Chief Executive Officer David Benjamin
announced the company finalized the $37 million
transaction with JMP after receiving FCC approval. The
acquisition brings Triad's holdings to 49 radio stations
in eight U.S. markets that Triad owns, operates or has
agreed to acquire. It continues the company's strategy
of buying and growing strong station clusters in vibrant
small and mid-sized markets.
This newest cluster, which will operate locally as the
JMP Radio Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Triad, is
a strong mix of highly rated and formatically targeted
stations. Adult Contemporary WSWT-FM leads the Peoria
market among listeners 12+ according to the Fall 2002
Arbitronä. Oldies WPBG-FM and News/Talk WMBD-AM are
ranked number two and four, respectively and WWFS-AM is
the market's highest rated Sports station. JMP President
Mike Wild developed and managed the Peoria cluster to
its strong market position before agreeing to sell the
stations to Triad in December 2002. Wild continued his
cluster leadership role as Vice President and Market
Manager for Triad when the company entered into a local
marketing agreement on January 1, 2003 and will lead the
cluster's future growth under the Triad umbrella. In
addition, under terms of the agreement, Mr. Wild assumes
an equity ownership position in the station group.
According to Triad CEO Benjamin, "We are excited to
close this sale and bring the Peoria stations into the
Triad radio group. These stations are consistently
strong performers, ranking number one, two and four
among Peoria's top five stations. The fourth station,
Peoria's only Sports authority, serves a strong niche in
the market. Together, these stations lead the market in
delivering what Peoria listeners want to hear. Mike Wild
has done a tremendous job making the stations a key part
of the Peoria community among advertisers, listeners and
community groups. I know he will continue to take the
Peoria stations to new heights." Adds Wild, "Working
with the Triad management team since January has been a
pleasure. Triad is committed to the same principles on
which we built this great Peoria cluster: strong,
listener focused programming, creative promotions, value
added advertising opportunities for our clients and
community service. This union is seamless to our
listeners and a great synergistic move for our
operations. I'm thrilled to be a part of this cluster's
future growth."
